March 28, 2008 – The antidote to the poison of fear is a bitter one–martyrdom. That is, a willingness to lay one’s life down for a greater cause. More specifically, the cause of Christ. The Christian develops the heart of a martyr, not by summoning natural bravery or sense of duty, but by becoming so utterly enamored with the Savior (as the Spirit ministers truth to the heart) that one’s life is defined in Christ and breathes the poetic anthem: βto live is Christ and to die is to gain.β.
